A Modern Marvel: Westin Hotel

A Prime Location Meets Modern Design

Nestled just minutes from the Raleigh-Durham airport and a stone’s throw from the vibrant Brier Creek Commons—with over 800,000 square feet of shopping and dining—the Westin Hotel is a beacon for business travelers and leisure seekers alike. Spanning 85,000 square feet of EIFS, this project isn’t just about size but clever design. From its rooftop pool and commons area offering breathtaking views to its 10,000 square feet of flexible conference space, the hotel blends functionality with a contemporary flair that caters to Westin’s professional clientele.

The design team, led by Overcash Demmitt Architects (ODA) and Architect of Record Stephen Overcash, chose a drainable EIFS system for its energy efficiency, vast color and texture options, and ability to create a sleek, modern exterior. The result? A clean, crisp white-and-gray facade that pops against the bustling retail backdrop, accented by aesthetic grooves, protruding arches, and beams that add depth and character.

Why EIFS? Innovation and Versatility Shine

What sets this project apart is its creative use of EIFS to achieve both form and function. Aesthetic grooves on the lower-level conference center carve out a multi-dimensional exterior that grabs attention. Higher up, EIFS flows seamlessly over beams and arches, diversifying the tower’s look without breaking the continuity of the finish. This “all-in-one” cladding solution allowed the team to sidestep the monotony of other options, delivering a unique, eye-catching design that’s anything but ordinary.

Overcoming Challenges with Teamwork

The road to completion wasn’t without hurdles. Pandemic-related delays—manpower shortages, supply-chain disruptions, and more—pushed the timeline back by months. Yet, through careful planning and coordination, Second Wind Solutions, Master Wall, and Guaranteed Supply Co rallied to stock materials and accelerate the exterior work, ensuring the project stayed on track. Their efforts paid off, delivering a building that’s as functional as it is beautiful.

Performance That Pays Off

For a structure of this scale, energy efficiency isn’t just a perk—it’s a necessity. EIFS proved the ideal choice, offering a single-source system with a fluid-applied air and moisture barrier, drainage, continuous insulation, and impact resistance. This airtight yet breathable design minimizes energy loss, reduces costs, and ensures long-term profitability for CMC Hotels, the property owner. Add in excellent color retention and product availability, and it’s clear why EIFS outshone the competition.
